Major Infrastructure Projects Underway in Cambodia in 2023

Updated: Sep 4, 2023

Cambodia has a number of major construction projects currently ongoing, which are helping to drive economic growth and improve the country's infrastructure. Some of the most notable projects include:

Phnom Penh - Sihanoukville Expressway: This is a major highway project that aims to connect Cambodia's capital, Phnom Penh, to the coastal city of Sihanoukville. The expressway is expected to improve transportation and logistics in the country and make it easier for businesses to transport goods to and from the port of Sihanoukville. The project is being financed and built by a Chinese company and was completed in 2022.

Korea - Cambodia Friendship Bridge: Due to start in the second half of 2023, the bridge will be built in two sections crossing both the Mekong and Tonle Sap rivers. In the heart of Phnom Penh, the first section will be constructed from the night market near the riverside crossing the Tonle Sap to the Chroy Changvar peninsula. The second section of the bridge stretching across the Mekong River to Arey Ksat.

Phnom Penh - Ho Chi Minh City High-Speed Rail: This project aims to connect Cambodia's capital, Phnom Penh, with Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam via a high-speed railway. The project is expected to improve transportation and logistics in the region and make it easier for businesses to transport goods between the two countries. The project is financed and built by a Chinese company and it is expected to be completed in 2025.

New International Terminal at Phnom Penh International Airport: This project aims to expand the capacity of Phnom Penh International Airport to handle an increasing number of passengers. The new terminal is expected to feature state-of-the-art facilities, including duty-free shops, restaurants, and lounges. The project is being financed and built by a Chinese company and it is expected to be completed in 2025.

New urban development projects in Phnom Penh: There are a number of new urban development projects currently under construction in Phnom Penh. These projects include new high-rise buildings, condominiums, and shopping centers. Many of these projects are being financed and built by foreign investors, and they are expected to help improve the quality of life for residents of the city and provide new opportunities for businesses.

In addition to these major projects, there are many other smaller construction projects ongoing in Cambodia. These include new hotels, resorts, office buildings, and industrial facilities. As a result of these various construction projects, the country's economy is seeing a growth in the construction sector, and an increase of job opportunities for locals as well as an improvement of the infrastructure.

Overall, these construction projects are having a significant impact on the Cambodian economy and are helping to drive economic growth and improve the country's infrastructure. However, it's important to ensure that these developments are done in a sustainable way and are not detrimental to local communities or the environment.
